- Paramedical technical employees at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton became the first HSAA bargaining unit in 1972
- The Canadian Red Cross was the first non-hospital bargaining unit certified in 1974
- First private for profit employer unit was organized at Calgary Medical Laboratories in 1975
- Today, HSAA represents more than 14,000 paramedical technical, paramedical professional, and support employees in more than 150 disciplines
- HSAA represents health care employees in all nine health regions, the Alberta Cancer Board, Workers’ Compensation Board, Canadian Blood Services, mental health clinics, and public and private long term care facilities
- 70 percent of all medical laboratory technologists in Alberta are represented by HSAA
- HSAA has been virtually strike free in its history
